I don’t know what happened next.
I wake up
in an empty room, lying on the cold floor, my whole body aching. My legs are
hurting like they never did before. I glance at them and I see bloody bandages
covering both my legs from knees down.
As I begin
to gather my senses, I look around the room. White walls are towering over a
white floor. A thin and dirty mattress is lying in one corner. I must have
rolled off it in pain, who knows? A bottle of water, now empty, sits near the
wall. I suddenly feel the thirst. I lick my lips.
“Hello?!”
My voice is
coarse and I don’t recognize it.
“Hello?! Is
there anybody?”
The room
echoes in response and that’s the only answer I get.
I start to
crawl towards the bottle. Maybe there’s still some water in it. Every movement
incites millions of painful vibrations down my body. I find it difficult to
breathe. I reach the bottle and knock it over by mistake. No use, it is empty.
My throat feels like being made of sandpaper.
“Please…” I
whisper, losing consciousness again.
